Road network: Messenia Prefecture is connected with Athens, through the New National Road of Athens- Tripoli- Kalamata, and this trip lasts almost 2,5 hours. Moreover, the trip Tripoli- Kalamata lasts about 1,5 hour by car and the trip Patras- Kalamata 3 hours respectively.
Airport: The airport of Kalamata is 9 kilometers away from the city, on its west side. There are flights from as well as to Athens, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli and Heraklion. From the airport of Kalamata, you can also travel abroad, with direct flights from as well as to England, France, Germany, Austria, Russia and Sweden.
Port: The port is located at a very short distance from the center of the city and it connects Kalamata with Chania City.
Means of transport: The bus network, “KTEL”, of Messenia prefecture connects Kalamata with all the areas of the prefecture, as well as with all the cities of the Peloponnese. There are also itineraries to Ioannina and Thessaloniki, as well as itineraries within the prefecture.
In the city: There is also a city bus network in Kalamata, with five bus lines to the whole of its area. For bicycle lovers, the city has a big network of cycle lanes connecting the city with the beach and which is constantly being extended.
Sciences: Kalamata is also the seat of some Departments of the University of the Peloponnese, as well as of the Technological Educational Institute of the Peloponnese. At the same time, the city has infrastructures and appropriate spaces to host scientific seminars and conferences with a big number of participants.
